Millions of people around the world suffer from arthritis. This disease results in inflammation, swelling, stiffness and pain in various joints in the body. Arthritis flare-ups can occur frequently and last days sometimes weeks with no relief in sight. While there are medicines available to help treat the pain of arthritis all too often these medications simply dull the pain not end it and the side of effects from some of these medications can be worse than the pain itself.
However, there are a couple of all natural supplements on the market today that seem to be helping arthritis sufferers not only get rid of the pain of this condition but, the inflammation and stiffness as well. Ironically both of these supplement come from the ocean and their affects can for some people be astounding.
One of these supplements is fish oil supplements that are high in omega-3 fatty acids and contain a combination of both EPA and DHA fatty acids. Studies show that the omega-3 fatty acids lubricate the joints which results in less friction from bone rubbing on bone. It is this friction which is often the cause of the inflammation and therefore the pain that arthritis sufferers are forced to live with. A reduction in inflammation means there is less pain to deal with.
The other supplement is made from the green mussel a shell fish that can only be found off the coast of New Zealand these supplements may even be better than fish oil supplements for arthritis sufferers for several reasons. First not only do they contain omega-3 fatty acids which helps to lubricate the joints but, these mussels also contain natural sources of Glucosaimine and Chrondroitin both of which are known anti inflammatory agents. In addition there is some evidence that green lipped mussel supplements may actually help to repair and rebuild damaged joint cartilage which is the cartilage that cushions the bones and prevents them from rubbing against one another.
Reviews on green lipped mussels are highly encouraging with actual users stating that continued use of this supplement reduced and sometimes entirely prevented arthritis flare-ups and even has increased the range of motion in joints affected by this condition.
While more studies need to be done on both these supplements anecdotal evidence seems to be pretty clear. These supplements can help reduce the inflammation, stiffness and pain for those suffering from arthritis and can do so with few if any negative side effects.
